New Year’s Day
January 1 is one of the most important days for celebrations, not only because it is the first day of the year, but also the Feast of Agios Vasilis (Αγιος Βασίλης). A Vasilopita (a special cake with a hidden coin inside) is cut in Greek households, and whoever is lucky enough to get the coin in their slice has a very lucky year! On this day also, Christmas gifts are given to children by Saint Basil (Αγιος Βασίλης), who is the Greek Santa Claus.
On January 6 the Greek Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the Epiphany, commemorating the baptism of Jesus Christ in the river Jordan. The religious day starts with church service and continues with the Blessing of the Water ceremony (held at the nearest body of water – sea, lake, river) where young men dive into the water to retrieve the wooden cross tossed in by the Archbishop, Bishop or Priest, in the hope of retrieving it for good luck.
Clean Monday is the first day of Great Lent in the Greek Orthodox Church. Special events and activities take place which feature plenty of music, dancing and delicious fasting food (including olives, taramasalata, Halva, legumes and lagana bread), marking the start of this special Greek Orthodox period of fasting and contemplation.
The Paros cycling organizes the first two days of activities starting with aliki of PAROS Is an opportunity for all to experience the sport of Rowing S.U.P. Stand (stand up padding) as well as the older but favorite Canoe. The weekend also includes Yoga, Zumba and playing on the beach.

- Annunciation of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary): This Holy day in the church calendar celebrates the day Archangel Gabriel came to Mary with a message from God that she would conceive his son, Jesus Christ.
- Greek National Independence Day: On March 25th, 1821, Bishop Germanos of Patras raised the Greek flag at the Monastery of Agia Lavra in Peloponnese and the Greeks declared the Revolutionary War against the Turks. This day marks the freedom and independence from the Turkish rule and the end of the 400 year Ottoman Empire in Greece.
On this day, many Greeks will attend church in the morning, followed by a memorial service. In Athens to celebrate Independence Day, a large military parade occurs on the main street of Syntagma, in front of the Parliament building.
The Day after Easter Sunday, is Easter Monday. It is celebrated as a holiday in Christian cultures.
Holy Friday is the most sacred day of Holy Week and is a day of mourning. It is the day that commemorates the Passion of Christ, with his funeral. In the evening there is a procession and the Epitaphio (tomb of Christ) is carried around the church and surrounding streets, accompanied by parishioners holding candles alight.
At midnight, The Anastasi, the Resurrection, takes place. The priest passes the Holy Flame throughout the congregation and everyone chants “Christos Anesti” (“Christ is Risen”).
May 1st is International Labor Day and ‘Protomagia’ meaning the first day of May. It is a celebration of spring, nature and flowers, and to honour the day there will be many parades and other festivities around Greece. Many people traditionally go to the countryside for a picnic, to fly kites and gather wild flowers for the flower wreath that will hang on their front door of their house.

Artichoke is one of the main agricultural products of Tinos, which the residents have cultivated throughout the ages. Every June, in the village of Komi, the ladies of the village prepare many recipes based on artichoke and offer them to visitors.
Festival of choirs
The Festival of choirs of Ermoupoli is a major initiative of the Music Group, which has established itself as an institution in the cultural life of the island, with the participation of choirs from all over Greece and abroad.
Syros Tango Festival
A magnificent Festival, full of passion, takes place on the island in recent years, under the supervision and the event's soul, Christina Sariogloy. For the fifth consecutive year, the Festival of Argentine Tango intends to have an international dimension, with the participation of distinguished artists from Argentina, Europe and Greece, aiming at an even greater turnout foreign and domestic tourists. Will include seminars for all levels of stakeholders, dance nights and performances that will please us.
Monday of the Holy Spirit is a celebration following Pentecost, fifty days after the Resurrection of Christ. It is a religious holiday which marks the descent of the Holy Spirit to the disciples.
Fabulous Potato Festival
In July, the Union of Rural Cooperatives in cooperation with the cultural association of Saint Arsenios and the Region of South Aegean organise a fabulous potato festival. More than 4.000 people participate every year enjoying dancing with traditional music and tasting many recipes based on potatoes. Naxos is well known for its delicious potatoes, cultivating almost 17.000 tons every year and 1.500 tons of potato seeds.

Every July, a festival takes place in Naoussa village dedicated to the sea. The local Women Association of the village which organizes this event, offers fresh fried fish, raki (named as “souma” in Paros) and wine to the guests. Many local traditional music groups take part in this festival.

Rebetiko Music Festival
Rebetiko Music Festival started in 2016 from the municipality of Syros – Syros, in cooperation with the Company development and progress of the Chamber of Cyclades, and was established as an institution in the cultural life of the island. The connection of the island with the urban folk music, which prevails as an integral cultural element attribute from the first decades of the 20th century. in the musical events of the island and respect and recognition in the great Markos Vamvakaris, who has made the rebetiko music and the island known to the whole world, have been the springboard for the creation of the Festival. For this year, the Festival includes a wide variety of events, such as concerts, theatrical performances, lectures, exhibitions, workshops and events for children, in order to promote the contribution of the Rebetiko Markos Vamvakaris and his hometown in Greece and abroad.
International Dance Festival
The Dance Center Akropoditi, after the establishment of the "International Dance Festival and Dance Akropoditi DanceFest', with the vision of Angelic Sigourou, organises the 7th International Dance Festival, with multilateral actions, such as contemporary dance workshops, choreography, improvisation, classical ballet technique clown , dance, technical architecture Alexander , Body music, Theatre, Flamenco and Yoga, creative dance workshop for people with and without motor, creative contemporary dance workshop for parents and children. It also includes dance and theater performances from Greece and abroad, as well as parallel actions in public spaces. It is worth mentioning that the 2016 Akropoditi dance theatre awarded by prizes Karolos Koun to MEDUSA expression and for the overall project in Syros.
The International Festival
The International Festival, which takes place annually on the island of Syros welcomes exquisite melodies and great performances operatikoy Repertory, which attract thousands of visitors. Founded in 2005 by love, so to Syros for the iconic Apollo Theater, the Greek-American conductor and Director Peter Tiboris. Syros International Film Festival
The SIFF founded in 2013 from the INSPIRER of Jacob Moe, in collaboration with Cassandra Celestine. An annual meeting of Greek and international independent films with major movie sections, competitive sections, short films and feature films, specials and many parallel events and discussions that take place in anadiamorfwmenoys and traditional places of the island. The International Film Festival has secured major partnerships, such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Roof Foundation. An unusual experience with great filmmakers from Greece and abroad addressed to all our senses at the same time.
Guitar Festival of Syros
Creative commingling musicians of professors and students at the Guitar Festival of Syros. Top musicians and pedagogues, rich program with evening concerts, mini concerts entitled "musical delight", international contest "Kitharistikoi Games", Master Class, Tutorials for beginners, guitar orchestra students from participants musicians. The Festival's artistic director is Angelo Nikolopoulos, which with its consistency has managed to create one of the oldest Festivals carried out with absolute success all these years on the island.
Every summer accordionists from all over Greece and abroad give Rendezvous in Syros and share their passion for music. By 2012 the Festival is a volunteer effort and akornteonistwn friends of the accordion. Representatives of the Organization "Tailwind" Kristel Loykits and Kandia Printezi to leverage their love for the accordion to election in all its dimensions. For 8the year in Syros, the Festival includes great musical performances and accordion pioneer of unique event for this musical instrument throughout the country. Well-known artists, seminars, trade shows, accordion workshops for children, concerts and dance festivals.
Because of its rich flora, Naxos has approximately 5.000 beehives, producing almost 50 tons of virgin thyme annually. The honey festival takes place during August having many educational activities focused on both children and adults. The villagers also reveal many recipes based on honey.

It is celebrated during the first Saturday of August and organized by Santo Wines (the cooperative union of local products of Santorini). It is a celebration of the first day of the year’s harvest and a representation of the traditional way of harvesting. It is accompanied by local songs and customs of the viticulture.

Every August on Agkathopes beach, a festival is held dedicated to the seine fishing nets and the sardines. Great quantities of sardines are baked on charcoal and served to guests and locals.
Fourtalia is a type of omelette with potatoes, sausages and local cheese. Every August in Messaria village, visitors and locals have the opportunity to taste this delicacy which is prepared and served by villagers.
International Classical Music Festival
Ypsiloy artistic level concerts with orchestras from abroad. Conductors and soloists and chamber music performers. The Festival has become an institution with international reach, travels in time, remember all the artists of international repute who have honor, such as Leonidas Kavakos, Nobuko Imai, Frans Helmerson, Michaela Martin, Radovan Vlatkovic, Janis Vakarelis, Kostas Kotsiwlis, Michel Lethiec, presenting a program rich and versatile in the historic Apollo Theater. The Greek violinist, first leading the National Opera and artistic director of the Festival, Yiannos Margaziwtis, was one of the authors.

It is a national and religious holiday that marks the “falling asleep” of Panagia, Mother of Lord Jesus Christ, and commemorates the Assumption of the body of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokoss into heaven.

Every first Saturday after the 15th of August, a well known festival dedicated to snails takes place in the mountain village of Lefkes. The traditional recipe, made up of snails baked with garlic, is served accompanied by wine and traditional music.
The organ festival "ANO"
The organ festival "ANO" is organized by the Catholic Diocese of Syros and the Greek Catholics, Link aiming at offering high-level cultural events, highlighting the uniqueness of the organ of the The Cathedral of St. George in Ano Syros, which is the oldest pipe organ, which is in operation in Greece – built in 1888 by the famous Zeno Fedeli. Takes place in an amazing spot on top of the island with direct views of the Aegean Sea, creating a major attraction in the medieval settlement of Ano Syros.

The festival is held in Perissa village (the creek of Koladas) during the last weekend of August. The "Fisherman’s Feast" refers to the representation of the traditional way of fishing in Santorini at the time that there were no mechanical means.
Eye's Walk Digital Festival
The Festival connects the unique architectural heritage of Syros with contemporary art video installation art. Friendship Milidaki and her team has created a global Festival originality. International artists creating video art installation at the neoclassical buildings of Syros. The Festival is the only festival art in public space in Greece. The canvas the city's buildings, where the arts of video installation, art & performing art meet.
Approximately 1.000 tons of the famous graviera cheese is produced every year on the island. the cheese is labelled as Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). Because of its rich flora and the perfect climate conditions, Naxos has about 4.500 bovines and 110.000 goats and sheep. The produced varieties of cheese and meat are well known for their excellent quality. The festival takes place in September, it is organized by the Union of Rural Cooperatives and aims to further promote this famous product.

Sifnos is well known for its legacy on gastronomy. This famous festival takes place in the village of Artemonas, every September and is dedicated to the Sifnian chef, Nikolaos Tselementes. In this event, delegations (consisted from professional chefs and amateurs) from other Cycladic islands visit Sifnos in order to cook and offer their traditional recipes to the guests. Every island has a stand and for three days many traditional delicacies of the Aegean islands are being served.
The Animasyros managed to become one of the 20 major cartoon Festival in the world. Festival Chairman Vassilis Karamitsanis, by his love for Syros, has created an international festival that stands out. Includes competitive sections, special screenings in Posidonia and the medieval settlement of Ano Syros, presentations of films, tributes, secret views, important international guests, workshops for people with disabilities and the Market, an annual meeting of top professionals in the world animation in Ermoupoli. It hosts hundreds of animated characters and even more friends of animation from around the world, with great partnerships such as those of the roof of the Onassis Foundation and the National Opera.
Stray Art Festival
The Stray Art Festival combines different forms of expression of public space in urban environment. Favorite artists of street art and Graffiti, supported by dozens of musicians, actors and performers celebrate the street culture with main axis the murals. A Festival, which includes events of music, dance, theater and sporting events. The Festival is an initiative of students of the Department of product and systems design engineering, University of the Aegean, which embraced from the first moment the society.

During October all the traditional distilleries of the island prepare to produce raki. The fragrance of the produced spirits and the aromas of the baked goat meat and quinces spread all over the island. In late November, in the village of Moni the raki festival takes place where everyone is invited to watch the procedure of raki’s distillation and taste the traditional spirit.
OXI Day, October 28, commemorates the anniversary when in 1940 former military general and Prime Minister of Greece, Ioannis Metaxas said “OXI” (NO) to an ultimatum made by Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini, an ally of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. The day represents bravery, solidarity and heroism for millions of Greeks all around the world. Parades and the waving of the Greek flag proudly occurs across the entire country.
On December 25, the Greek Orthodox Church celebrates the Nativity of Christ. The feast of the birth of Jesus is also known as the ‘Incarnation of Christ’ meaning that Jesus became a man and came into the world. It’s a time for families to come together and celebrate.
The Synaxis of the Mother of God, also known as the Glorifying of the Mother of God, is a day dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
