Halkidiki offers an excellent choice of accommodation
Thessaloniki and Halkidiki
What we think "City culture meets stunning beaches and sunshine"
Thessaloniki is Greece’s second-largest city, situated in the region of Central Macedonia on the Thermaic Gulf. It is located some 500 miles from Athens but has its own international airport, with plenty of direct flights from the UK.
Founded around 315 BCE by King Cassander of Macedon and named after his wife, Thessalonike, the half-sister of Alexander the Great, Thessaloniki has a fascinating Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman history. One of its most iconic landmarks is the White Tower.
A cultural hub, well known for its many festivals throughout the year, Thessaloniki is a historic, waterfront and cosmopolitan city, with a vibrant nightlife and an excellent food scene. It is ideal for long weekend breaks or as a gateway to Halkidiki.
The Halkidiki peninsula is between a one- and two-hour transfer from Thessaloniki. It is divided into three separate peninsulas: Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos. Whether you opt for Kassandra or Sithonia, you certainly won’t regret it. Both offer beautiful, exotic, long sandy beaches with crystal-clear turquoise waters.
The region also boasts a wealth of historical sites, picturesque villages and stunning scenery.
Halkidiki offers a wide range of accommodation, from five-star luxury resorts and villas to family-run hotels and self-catering properties. For the more active, there are plenty of water sports, tennis courts and even golf.
Halkidiki is ideal for romantic holidays, families, groups and solo travellers.
